Intentional Rescue.
Education for humanity.
Legislative change.

Adopting is one of the best things you can do.

When you adopt, you’re not just giving a deserving dog a home. You’re also reducing the demand for puppy mills and other industrial-scale breeding operations that put profit before animal welfare.

“I had an incredibly positive experience with CBR. After I filled out an application, they got back to me right away. Every step of the way, it was so efficient and helpful. They streamlined the whole experience of meeting my future-dog. It was clear how much they love and care for their dogs, and how important it is to them to find the best match possible between dog and human. I am forever grateful to CBR for rescuing my boy, and for connecting the two of us!”

American Bully

A newer addition to the world of canine breeds, the American Bully originated in the United States between 1980 and 1990. A combination of American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, Olde English Bulldog, and Bulldog, the American Bully  has been recognized as a breed by the UKC since 2013.

A devoted family companion, the American Bully originated on both coasts of the United States. This breed is now found far beyond American borders, and has made his mark in both Europe and Asia.  Dog breeds grouped within the “bully breed” descend from Molosser dogs of Greece who are noted for the robust physique, pendant ears and short muzzles. Original bully breeders wanted a strong canine to guard their property, protect livestock, and help with daily chores, The modern American Bully is more tolerant toward other dogs than some other bully breeds. But because dog-to-dog conflict is a concern with any breed, dedicated training and socialization will help the American Bully become the best possible canine citizen. With a loving guardian and positive reinforcement training, American Bullies are smart, well-behaved, fun-loving members of the family.

If you are interested in becoming an American Bully’s best buddy, you will want to check your local regulations. Some areas have enacted strict regulations against ownership of bully-type and guard-type breeds, commonly called “Breed-specific Legislation (BSL).” BSL attempts to decrease dog bites and attacks by legally banning or strictly controlling certain dog breeds. As simple as this sounds, laws against select breeds are hard to enforce when a dog is of mixed origin or undeterminable breed.  Not every dog with a big noggin has a bully-breed background and all dogs, not just bully breeds, can bite. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) opposes BSL and states it is an unreliable and ineffective tool for dog bite prevention.

ADOPTED! We are so happy to announce that these cuties have found their forever humans!

Together we have saved over a thousand dogs in Southern California XO

Hello Nice People my name is AVA and I really need a home can you HELP me find one please?

I'm a mesmerizing 6 year old 10 pound Schnauzer & Poodle mix with the most beautiful and soulful eyes and softest coat!

I am good with other dogs but can be bossy so best as the only doggo in the household.
I'm pretty much a big dog in a little body so I need an experienced forever human who will be patient but yet be a good leader. I am seeking a dog-savvy home to help me thrive.

And I need a calm and quiet home with no kids or cats please! ...

After my first Pit Bull, Lady, passed away, that love blossomed into a desire to help other bullies in need. It also inspired me to advocate for the breed and for responsible Pit Bull owners everywhere.

I am driven to bring awareness to the other side of the "Pit Bull" story - the one most people don't see on the news. I hope to get people to look deeper - beyond the "Pit Bull" hype - and see love in its truest form.

Fresno Bully Rescue (FBR) is a volunteer-based, non-profit, no-kill rescue and shelter dedicated to rescuing bully breed dogs (i.e. American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, American Bull Dogs, Bull Terriers, etc.). We are here to provide a healthy and loving temporary home while we look for forever homes for our shelter dogs. We are one of the only breed-specific, no-kill rescues with an actual kennel-facility in California. We house over 45 adult dogs at our facility (with many more puppies and adults in foster homes). Our pet adoption program and support is tailored to help find you the best match for your family and start it off right! We are a 501 (c) (3) public charity and all donations are tax deductible.

Besides rescuing and adopting, FBR is also committed to providing educational services in the community, micro-chipping, and promoting spaying and neutering and responsible ownerships of the bully breeds. In addition, FBR is committed to advocating for the bully breeds by doing educational outreach to the high risk communities about the illegal practice of dog fighting, as well as providing mental & physical rehabilitation and training to our bully residents while in our care. Fresno Bully Rescue is also available to provide guidance and assistance to forever families of our dogs during the transition to their forever home.

Adoption Process

Step 1

Please fully complete and submit the Adoption Application. Filling out the adoption application is not a commitment to adopt; it is simply the first step in the process.

Step 2

Once we receive your application, the application will be reviewed by our Adoption Coordinator.

Brave Bully Rescue is not able to accept every application for adoption and reserves the right to reject an application. Applications are PROCESSED on a first come first serve basis but are APPROVED based on which application is the best match for the animal and family. Brave Bully Rescue will perform a vet check and a reference check.

We WILL call your vet and make sure all animals are current on their vaccinations, rabies, on a monthly heartworm preventative and spayed/neutered. We will also require 3 reference (not family related).

Step 3

Once your application is pre-approved, a Brave Bully team member will contact you to set up a home visit. A home visit is required to ensure adequate living environment for our dog. Please understand that we will always have the best interest for our Bullies. Thank you for your understanding!

Step 4

Once the home visit is approved, we will schedule a “meet and greet” with your entire family so they can meet the potential candidates and make sure it’s a match for you and your family’s lifestyle.

Step 5

After the “meet and greet”, Brave Bully Rescue will set up a “Sleep-Over”.

Our “Sleep-Over” program has been very successful with our adoption process. We believe it’s important for the potential family to spend quality time in their own home with our dog. A few hours it’s not enough to make sure if our bully will be the right fit for you and your family. It also gives you the opportunity to bond with your potential new family member.

Step 6

If the “Sleep-Over” is a success, we will then approve your Adoption Application. One of our team members will set up a time to meet at your home and finalize the adoption. A Contract will be required. Our contract is a legal-binding document that spells out your responsibilities as the owner of the pet you are adopting. In addition, the Contract provides you with a record of the medical care that our rescue provided for the animal while in our care.

**Every penny of an adoption contribution goes towards our dogs medical expenses while the dog is in the possession of Brave Bully Rescue. In fact, in almost all cases, the adoption contribution falls far short from the actual medical expenses spent on our dogs. The average amount we spend on a healthy rescued dog is $250-$350, but it could easily cost Brave Bully Rescue as much as $2,000 or more depending on the medical issues. Brave Bully Rescue depends on public donations.**

Step 1 is to fill out our ONLINE ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once that is complete, we will contact you within 1-3 days.

Step 2 is the home check. If your application is approved, then we make an appointment to come by your house and see where your new bully will be living. We will be looking for a safe, secure, happy & healthy environment where a dog will thrive as a part of your family.

Fence Checks: During our home inspection we will walk the perimeter of your yard to make sure that your fencing is "bully proof". Although we want your new dog to reside primarily indoors, we also have to make sure that your fencing is secure and safe. Things that we will look for in regards to your fence; any loose fence boards, large holes or gaps, weak fencing that is falling down, low spots where a dog can dig out, low fencing where a large dog can easily jump over, neighbors dogs that can easily poke their faces though fence holes, items close to the fencing that can enable a dog to jump up on to get over the fence, etc.

Some things that you can do to prepare for a home inspection/fence check: Keep a pad lock on any gates, secure any loose fence boards with screws/hammer/nails. Cover and secure any holes, gaps or low spots to create a safe and "escape proof" yard. Reinforce any weak fence spots. Place fence extensions on low fencing to prevent dogs from jumping over. Remove any items close to the fence that can enable a dog to jump over a fence. Clean yard of any debris, trash or dangerous items that can cause harm to an animal. Also, adding a latch to the bottom of your gates can prevent a dog from pushing out, the weakest part of the gate is the bottom.

Step 3: if your application and home are approved, then, if you have any other animals, we assist with introductions to make sure that they all get along. If all these things go good, that's it!
