Why you need a password manager

Everyone needs a password manager. With everything we do online, it’s important to protect yourself from cyber threats. With so much information to keep track of in our busy lives, it’s also helpful to find apps that keep you organized without much effort. A password manager:

  • Saves you time by filling passwords for you
  • Keeps you organized with one place to manage logins
  • Gives you peace of mind by remembering every account
  • Improves your security with stronger passwords
  • Makes it fast and easy to look up passwords anywhere

Is the browser password manager enough?

If you’re using Mozilla Firefox, you may be using the browser password manager to save and fill logins for different websites. The built-in password manager saves you time and the hassle of remembering every password. But the browser password manager is short on features to help you protect yourself online.

A standalone password manager like LastPass gives you extra security with options like two-factor authentication and password alerts. When it comes to your personal information, you deserve strong protection. With the option to store addresses, credit cards, notes and other items, a password manager like LastPass also keeps the information you need every day just a few clicks away.

LastPass does more than save passwords

From alerts about data breaches to an audit of your passwords, LastPass tells you when action is needed to update your accounts so you can stay on top of your security.

Built for peace of mind.

LastPass is designed to keep your information private, secure, and hidden (even from us).

Encrypted vault

Your data is encrypted before it leaves your device, so only you can unlock your vault. Manage passwords in your vault by organizing your sites into folders.

Private master password

The master password is your private key to your vault; it’s never stored or sent to LastPass.

Two-factor authentication

Add more security to your vault by requiring a code or notification to your phone. A strong password combined with a two-step verification protocol provides the most protection.

How to disable your Firefox password manager and switch to LastPass

'Does Lastpass work with Firefox?': How to add the encrypted password manager to your Firefox browser's toolbar

  • LastPass works with Firefox thanks to the password encryption company's browser add-on.
  • To get LastPass to work with Firefox, type "about: addons" into the URL bar and search for LastPass to download the add-on.
  • You can also download the add-on by going to Firefox's browser menu and selecting "Tools" then "Add-ons."
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Using one password for multiple accounts is a big security no-no, even if it is tempting. Fortunately, free programs like LastPass are out there to help.

The password management program creates a vault for all your different login credentials located and encrypted directly on your device. Whenever you need one, LastPass will prompt you to sign in to use what you've saved in the Vault.

You only have to recall one LastPass master password to get access to your various accounts' login information. Most browsers are LastPass compatible, and Firefox is no exception. Users can seamlessly incorporate LastPass into their browsing with the LastPass Firefox add-on.

Here's how to do it.

What is AutoFill?

AutoFill gives you the option to save your passwords, addresses, and payment cards so that the browser or other service can fill in forms for you. Rather than typing the same information over and over when you’re registering for a new account or buying something, AutoFill enters those details for you in just a few clicks. The Mozilla Firefox browser offers a built-in AutoFill, and password managers like LastPass also offer AutoFill along with extra features and security.

Why use AutoFill on Mozilla Firefox?

Store personal information icon

Save time

Similar to Firefox autocomplete, LastPass AutoFill eliminates time spent on typing repetitive information. By filling it in for you in a few clicks, you’ll be able to complete tasks much more quickly.

Autofill online forms icon

Reduce headaches

It’s hard to remember dozens, or even hundreds, of username and password combinations. With the AutoFill feature, you store the right information once, and it’s filled for you correctly, every time.

password sharing icon

Improve security

If you must remember and type all your passwords, you’ll choose ones that are simple and insecure. With a password manager to remember and AutoFill your credentials, you can create strong, unique passwords, too.

What can LastPass AutoFill on Mozilla Firefox?

Usernames and passwords

Once your passwords are stored with LastPass — autofill will save you from typing another password ever again. Automatically log in to saved sites and auto-save newly created accounts.

Addresses

Whether you’re shipping to the office or to your home, LastPass saves all your addresses so you can finish shopping quickly.

Payment cards and credit cards

When you’re ready to make a purchase, LastPass makes it easy to complete your payment and go on to the next thing.

How a password manager works with AutoFill

Many people choose a password manager like LastPass for the added security and flexibility. Once you download the LastPass extension from the Firefox Add-Ons Store, it integrates directly with Firefox. Whenever you log in to an account on a website, LastPass will ask to save the username and password. When you return to the site, LastPass will autocomplete the login for you! LastPass can also save and fill addresses payment or credit cards, and even generate new passwords when you’re registering on a new website.
