Is Halo Infinite down? Here's what's going on

If you’re asking ‘is Halo Infinite down?’ or seeing a "not authorized to play Halo Infinite" message, then one of many things could have gone wrong with the game. Halo Infinite hasn’t fully released yet, but the recent test flights have allowed Xbox Insiders and PC players to test out early multiplayer builds of the game. These flights have been available for only a few days at a time over the weekend, and the multiplayer servers have only ever been enabled for specific time slots. Of course, other server-related issues can also arise due to the sheer popularity of the game, especially as Industries works to iron out any initial problems. Here are several reasons as to why Halo Infinite could be down.

Is Halo Infinite down?

There are lots of reasons that Halo Infinite could be down, and there are likely to be even more issues and error codes that come about when the game fully launches. Be patient and keep an eye on the official Halo and Halo Support Twitter accounts for news and updates on major outages and issues with Halo Infinite and other Halo titles, such as the Master Chief Collection and Halo 5: Guardians.

For now, you might be experiencing some issues with accessing the multiplayer test flights, specifically you’re probably getting an error message that says, “your account is not authorized to play Halo Infinite”. The most recent test flight started on September 23 and ran until September 27 at 10am PT, which means it has unfortunately been and gone. Fear not as the next flight will be starting in just a few days on September 30 and will run until October 3. If you’ve got an Xbox, you’ll be able to play in this flight, regardless of if you’ve signed up and opted into the test flights on Halo Waypoint or not. You just need to install the Xbox Insider Hub app and sign up to be an Xbox Insider. If you do check out the new test flight, make sure you’re up to date on all the new and returning Halo Infinite weapons.

Another likely problem with accessing Halo Infinite test flights is that you might not have signed up properly. Check your account details on Halo Waypoint and any emails regarding any test flights to make sure you have access. If you’re playing on an Xbox, you’ll also need to have the Xbox Insider Hub application installed and be signed up. Conveniently, this app will notify you when any test flights for Halo Infinite go live, so make sure you have the Halo build installed so that you can hop in as soon as it opens.

After realising I hated writing local news when I started my journalism degree, I decided to make it my mission to combine my gaming interests with work and become a games journalist. Even with my final year of uni cut short by a small virus you may have heard of, I managed to graduate from Kingston University London and have been doing freelance guides writing since the start of I was previously at Game Rant, but now I'm over here at GamesRadar+, no doubt still spending far too much time doing Warlock space magic stuff in Destiny 2, and trying to claw my way to Apex Predator in Apex Legends.

Halo 5 Guardians is a great Xbox One game when it is up and running smoothly with no online hiccups, but now and then servers do go down and this is when gaming comes to a halt until the issue has been found and fixed.

The first-person shooter video game by Industries, which is published by Microsoft Studios for the latest Xbox One, does have difficulties staying online sometimes and when this happens gamers like to have their say and this is why this page has been made.

Solution 2: Check for Halo service outage

When you launch Halo 5: Guardians, you can check the "Message of the Day" for any known service interruptions for Halo. Any interruption notices will be displayed when you launch the game and sign in to the Xbox network. Such notices would also be posted under Community on the main menu.

You can also visit the Halo Waypoint forums and look for Halo 5: Guardians under Games to see if other players are reporting similar problems.

Solution 3: Check your console connection

For help troubleshooting connection problems between your console and the online network services, see:

Halo 5: Guardians REQ Pack info

The Requisition System, or REQ System, in Halo 5: Guardians allows you to earn and buy REQ Packs. These add-ons may be earned with in-game REQ points, which you receive after each multiplayer match you complete. REQ Packs can also be found with certain Halo 5: Guardians hardware and accessories, and they may also be purchased in the Microsoft Store.

For more information on REQ Packs, visit the Halo Waypoint forums and look for Halo 5: Guardians under Games.

In some circumstances, such as a network or power outage during or shortly after purchasing a REQ Pack, you may find that the cards do not appear straight away. If that’s the case, have a look in the following places:

  • Check My Packs in the in-game menu to see if there are any unopened packs there.
  • Check your collection to see if there are any additional cards that have been added since you purchased the REQ Pack.

If you don’t see the REQ Pack content, and you haven’t been billed for the purchase, you can try to repurchase the items. However, if you have been billed and don’t see the items, contact Xbox Support.

Server down 3 halo

Industries shutting down legacy Halo servers at the end of

It's an end of an era for older generation Halo games.

Industries has announced that it will be shutting down multiplayer servers for Xbox Halo games at the end of

Halo will always be one of the franchises that normalised online play. While online multiplayer existed before the arrival of Master Chief, the franchise was certainly one of the cornerstones of bringing it to a mainstream audience.

While it started on the Xbox with Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, it was solidified on the Xbox where it was even more accessible.

To see this content please enable targeting cookies.

Well, unfortunately, it truly is nearly time to say goodbye to that era. In a post on Halo Waypoint, Industries announced that online support would be impacted for Halo 4, Halo: Reach, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Spartan Assault, and Halo Wars.

Explaining the decision to sunset the servers, Industries said: "The month over month usage of these legacy Xbox game services continues to dwindle, creating an even greater imbalance between the time and work required to maintain vs. the net impact to the overall Halo community."

"That's not to say we don't value and care about everyone who plays Halo - we absolutely do. But, as with any business, our teams must continually weigh needs against available resources (time, people, expertise, etc.) and prioritise on areas and opportunities that yield the greatest impact."

The post went on to say that sunsetting these servers are for the benefit of the future of Halo. "Continuing to evolve and expand MCC while bringing our ambitious vision for Halo Infinite to life is our top priority and stepping away from the day to day upkeep and hurdles of these aging services will empower the team to stay laser focused on our most critical future-facing endeavours. "

It's important to note that just because servers are being shut down does not mean you won't be able to play the games. You can still play through the campaigns of the game. Instead, online services like matchmaking are what will not be available.

Hell, you could even get some friends with Xbox s lying around and get a LAN party going like the good old days if you still want to experience the thrill of multiplayer.

It's also worth noting that their online experiences will, of course, live on in the Master Chief Collection.

Still, it's always sad to see an important chapter in gaming wind down, especially one with so many emotional attachments for a lot of players. So, if you want to get your fill of some Xbox Halo multiplayer action, make sure you log in sometime over the next year.
