Choosing the active chestpiece side:

  • Only one side of the chestpiece is acoustically active each time, something that is indicated by a special marking on the stem.
  • To alternate between active sides, you may simply rotate the chestpiece.

Listen to high and low frequency sounds in each side of the chestpiece thanks to the adjustable Littmann diaphragms.

Use the large side for adults and the smaller side for children or thin patients, around bandages, or for carotid assessments.

  • For high frequency sounds, apply stronger and stable pressure to the chestpiece.

Transform to a traditional open bell:

  • Pull the rim of the diaphragm on its small side and lift.
  • Fit the elastic band by placing the one side on the edge and stretching it over the bell.
  • To install the diaphragm, remove the elastic band and insert the diaphragm rim inside the groove. Finally, roll the rim around the chestpiece.

Cleaning – Disinfecting – Storing:

Clean the microscope between examinations by using a cloth with isopropyl alcohol (70%) or a disposable cloth with soap and water. For the disinfection of the stethoscope you may use a chlorine solution (2%) but be careful as this may cause discoloration to the eartubes. The adjustable diaphragms, elastic rim of the chestpiece, and eartips may be removed for thorough cleaning.

  • To remove the eartips from the eartube, pull firmly.
  • To assemble the eartips back, push the small side of the tip onto the tube until it locks in place.
  • Make sure that the eartips are installed properly before you put the earphones.
  • Do not immerse the stethoscope in any kind of liquids.
  • Do not subject the stethoscope in any type of sterilization procedure.
  • Do not store in locations that are near sources of high heat.
  • Do not leave the stethoscope over or near markers, newspapers, pens, or any printed material or it may get permanently stained.

Littmann maintenance and warranty program:

Within the warranty period, the devices can be amended without any additional cost by returning the stethoscope to 3D. The cases that are excluded from this include instruments that have been obviously mistreated, or damaged by random factors.

Littmann Cardiology IV Vs III

We all have our weapon of choice for completing specific tasks in our line of work.  A hairdresser has a specific pair of scissors she loves, an artist’s chooses a specific brush as his favorite weapon of choice and for doctors, their stethoscopes are usually their most loved tool of the trade.   These special weapons allow us to perform our tasks with ease and agility and lends us unique characteristics that others later use to identify with us.  The style of your weapon of choice can also lend you a certain amount of charm and status.

It is important for medical professionals to choose wisely when selecting their stethoscopes.  These medical tools, like all other medical equipment, don’t come cheap and the type of stethoscope you have can have a huge impact on your work or even on your performance as a medical student.

Littmann is one of the best stethoscope brands available on the market.  Thousands of medical experts and med students invest and love these specific stethoscope types because the brand has been known to create high-quality stethoscopes that are incredibly durable, functional, light and practical.

If you are in the cardiology division then you might be tempted to buy one of their high-performance cardiology stethoscopes such as the Cardiology IV or the Cardiology III.  Deciding between these two is going to be tough since they are both exceptionally good stethoscopes.  But which one is the best pick for you?  The older Cardiology III or the all-new Cardiology IV?  Perhaps this comparison will help you choose.

The Littmann Cardiology IV is an upgrade on the Cardiology III.  It is based on the same glorious design and features but with quite a few improvements that cardiologists cannot seem to praise enough.  The main difference between the new Cardiology IV and the older Cardiology III is the better audibility.  You can hear higher frequency sounds to help you learn more about your patients’ health.  The single-piece tunable diaphragms allow you to hear low and high frequency sounds on adult and children patients on both either of the more suitable sides of the chestpiece.  The Pediatric side converts to an open bell that you can keep covered with the small diaphragm.  One of the best improvements is the one piece diaphragm unit because the device is much easier to put together after cleanups.  The Cardiology IV has a thicker or higher bell which results in the better acoustics.  It also weighs 5 grams less than the Cardiology III which is beneficial for medical professionals who are always hustling and bustling.  Like the Cardiology III the stethoscope also consists of new-generation tubing that contains no traces of latex.  This is a beneficial feature for medical professionals and patients who might be allergic to latex.  The machined stainless steel bell or chest piece is oil and alcohol resistant which ensures great durability.

Selecting the stethoscope between 3M Littmann Classic III vs. Cardiology IV Stethoscope is the main question which asked many professionals like doctors, nurses, or medical professionals who use a stethoscope because many cardiologist doctors and medical students recommend these two.

There are many different types of stethoscopes. Basically, various fixed chest piece medical instruments are used to listen to the internal sounds in the chest and other body parts by blocking out external noise.

Here in this article, we will discuss Littmann stethoscopes. This blog post’s two main targeted stethoscopes are Littmann Classic III and Cardiology IV.

The Littmann Cardiology IV is the gold standard for stethoscopes, but it has a shorter tube length. If you need to work around your patient in tight spaces, the Classic III may be for you.

The Classic III’s black edition chest piece is better at conducting sound pressure than on the Cardiology IV. But let’s dig deeper and discuss them more widely.

The Littmann Classic III is a mid-level stethoscope that offers the same features as higher-end models without spending all of your money.

While there have been many variations in design with “classic” model scopes by Littmann over time. The upgraded tubing they built into this generation of scope has a somewhat similar feel to the Cardiology III.

When it comes to choosing a stethoscope, nurses will have the choice between two excellent instruments. The Littmann Cardiology IV Diagnostic Stethoscope and the Classic III Monitoring Stethoscope are top-quality models that offer superb acoustics with easy listening for your patients and you.

But there is some difference in features, which may make one better suited for different types of situations than others. The Littmann Cardiology IV stethoscope is a sleek and stylish piece of equipment that will be sure to make any medical professional look good.

Unlike the Classic III, which has one-piece diaphragms, this model features a smooth surface for easy cleaning as well as a classic tunable side (adult) or pediatric side depending on need.

Next-generation tubing resists skin oils and alcohol while also being stain resistant compared with previous models made without latex or phthalates, making it an environmentally friendly option.

To be very honest, both are known as the best models, and doctors are mostly confused about which one to buy. Both of the sets come with their own advantages and disadvantages. The Littmann Classic III stethoscope is an excellent tool to have in any medical setting.

It’s an all-rounder device that can be used on many different patients who may need monitoring and assessment of their heart, lung, or abdominal sounds.

The Classic III model has one-piece tunable diaphragms for acoustic precision with improved low-frequency response, eliminating bells. So if you’re looking for something compact but effective, this might just be it!

Littmann’s Cardiology IV stethoscope can help you diagnose a patient with confidence and make decisions confidently. You’ll be able to hear slightest changes in the patient’s status, such as heart murmurs or breath sounds from fluid-filled intestines, more easily than ever before!

This is due to Littman’s dual-lumen tubing that combines two sound paths within one tube and eliminates the rubbing noise of traditional double tubes while providing better audibility for high-frequency sounds.

As we come to a point, there is no such big difference between both of these. But one is perfect for non-critical situations, and one is better for intense situations.
